Buying a Centrifugal Juicer? Check out the Best 5

Getting more fruits and vegetables into our diets is often a challenge. Juicing is something that can help make this a lot easier, not to mention tastier. Fresh juice floods your body with lots of nutrients without the need to eat more food.

But many people think that juicing is time consuming with lots of food prep and cleaning involved. Not with a centrifugal juicer!

These babies are designed to be FAST. You can be sipping on your juice in no time with it taking less than 5 minutes from prep to clean up.

If you are keen to get the benefits of juicing, but don’t want it to take up too much time (or money), a centrifugal juicer could be the perfect choice. Below are our top picks for centrifugal juicers.

How We Chose the Best Centrifugal Juicer

Pulp Collection

Pulp collection can be internal or external with centrifugal juicers. External is better so there is no need to stop the machine and empty the pulp to keep juicing. This can be pretty annoying if it happens and takes up time.

Juice Container

A nice big collection jug can be important with centrifugal juicers as the juice comes out fast. It can be difficult trying to change containers without making a mess. Clear containers are best if you need to measure your juice.

Chute Size

This is all about preparation – a big chute means that whole fruits and vegetables can be used. Anything that doesn’t fit will only need minimal cutting. A chute of 3 inches or more is best to save time on preparation.

Ease of Cleaning

Centrifugal juices have a mesh filter that catch all the small cellulose fibers. This needs to be washed and rinsed soon after juicing or they will harden and become difficult to remove. Apart from the basket (which should only take a minute to clean) the less parts there are to wash the better. Also, if they can be put in the dishwasher, even better.

Variable Speeds

Juicing is a lot more efficient if you have multiple speeds to work with. Soft produce needs a different speed (slow) to hard (fast) to get the most juice out of it. Two speeds is all that is needed although some juicers have more.

The Top 5 Centrifugal Juicers

#1 Breville Juice Fountain Plus JE98XL: Best Overall

This juicer gets the top rating as it offers all the features we want at the best value. On top of that, its design is up to the task of juicing daily. From soft berries to hard carrots, it cuts through produce fast to deliver a juice high in nutrients.

We found all the features of this juicer make the juicing experience a pleasure. It is easy to feed almost anything through the chute with minimal preparation. This includes whole fruits like apples, oranges and pears. Soft and hard produce is handled with ease by using one of the 2 speed controls.

Plus, the big external pulp container and 1 liter jug means there is no need to stop at any time. Juicing from start to finish only takes a few minutes, with a smooth, foam free juice the result.

When done juicing, give the filter basket a quick rinse to remove most of the fibers. It can then go in the dishwasher along with the containers. Too easy.

A minor drawback with this model (and all Breville machines) is the 1 year warranty. For a big juicer brand, we feel this could be better.

Pros:

  • Dual speed control – maximizes juicing for hard and soft produce.
  • 3 inch chute – nice and wide for whole fruits and veg.
  • Large external pulp container – no need to stop juicing.
  • Dishwasher safe parts – easy clean up.

Cons:

  • 1 year warranty

Who Is It Best For?

This is the best centrifugal juicer for anyone who wants to juice fast and regularly. It makes the whole experience quick and enjoyable while delivering top quality juice. All at an affordable price.

#2 Breville Compact Juice Fountain BJE200XL: Best Compact Juicer

Juicers can be bulky space hogs which puts a lot of people off. Well that no longer needs to be an issue. The compact design of this juicer solves the problem with it taking up less space than most models.

Although less powerful than bigger juicers, this compact Breville juicer still makes fast work of juicing. It can handle any sized fruit and vegetables, including whole fruit.

Thanks to the wide chute, prep time is minimal. Clean up is also quick with dishwasher safe parts and a cleaning brush to help.

With an internal pulp collection bin, it will need emptying for longer juicing sessions. The clear, 800ml juice container allows easy tracking of exactly juice quantity.

Pros:

  • Compact design – ideal for small spaces and bench tops.
  • Price – under $100.
  • Wide chute – fits whole fruits easily for minimal prep.
  • Easy clean up – dishwasher safe parts and cleaning brush.

Cons:

  • One speed – the high speed means it isn’t efficient with soft produce.
  • Internal pulp collection – it may be necessary to empty the bin during juicing.

Who Is It Best For?

Perfect if you need a small juicer that takes up minimal space and can be easily put away. It is also a great choice for anyone new to juicing who wants to give it a try before investing in a more expensive unit.

#3 Cuisinart CJE-1000 Juice Extactor: The Quietest

They might be fast, but centrifugal juicers are also noisy. They wind up, like a washing machine, and use centrifugal force to extract the juice from fresh produce.

So finding one that doesn’t make a noise can be difficult. But, the Cuisinart CJE-1000 does do a good job of minimizing the noise, even with a 1000 watt motor.

Of all the centrifugal juicers, this one was definitely the quietest.

With a 5 speed dial control, the speed of juicing is easy to control while you go from soft fruits to hard vegetables. No need to stop and switch, it can be easily done by adjusting the dial as needed.

Pulp collection is external in a big 2 litre container while juice funnels into a clear pitcher with splatter guard. Designed to produce a less foamy juice, all removable parts are dishwasher safe for easy clean up.

While comparable in many ways to our top pick, the Breville JE98XL, this juicer does not have the same quality build.  With more plastic parts and hinges it is more susceptible to breakage.  The 3 year limited warranty does help to offset this concern.

Pros:

  • Variable speeds – a unique 5 speed dial accommodates all produce.
  • Quiet operation – not silent, but quiet for a centrifugal juicer.
  • 3 year limited warranty.
  • Wide chute – minimal food prep required.

Cons:

  • Build Quality – a lot of plastic parts and hinges susceptible to breakage.

Who Is It Best For?

Want a juicer but don’t want the noise? This is your best option other than buying a masticating juicer.

#4 Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Juice Extractor (67601A): Best On A Budget

When it comes to features at a value price, this is easily the best buy for anyone on a budget. Delivering fresh juice fast is the specialty of the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth. Its powerful 800 watt motor cuts through produce in seconds.

A wide chute allows you to juice whole fruits and means less pre-cutting of all produce. With a big external pulp container, continuous juicing is simple once you’ve done the quick prep. Dishwasher safe parts and cleaning brush make clean up quick too.

No container comes with the juicer so there is flexibility to use whatever suits. But with a fast juicer like this, we find you don’t want to be swapping containers too often or there will be a mess. The other disadvantage is that all the flavors may not end up in the one container so you will need to combine them at the end.

Pros:

  • Wide chute – fits whole fruits saving prep time.
  • Easy clean up – dishwasher safe parts & cleaning brush.
  • 3 year warranty
  • Price – under $100.

Cons:

  • No juice container included
  • One speed – juicing is less efficient, particularly for soft produce.

Who Is It Best For?

Easily the best pick for anyone on a budget who is looking to start juicing regularly.

#5 Breville Juice Fountain Elite 800JEXL: Best for Leafy Greens

Breville Juice Fountain Elite

At the highest price tag of our juicers, this is the Rolls Royce of centrifugal juicers with a 1000 watt motor. Not only is able to produce smooth juice from every type of fruit and vegetable, it is also capable of juicing leafy greens if done right.

No centrifugal juicer is as good as a masticating juicer when it comes to leafy greens, but this juicer does a decent job. Juicing the greens on low speed between other ingredients or scrunching them into a bundle is the best way. Start with soft produce (at low speed) then move to the higher speed for hard ingredients.

The rest of the features for this juicer are like the Breville Juice Fountain Plus (our top pick). The main difference is the die-cast metal body and more powerful motor. A stronger built machine means a higher price. Pulp separation, juice capture and the wide chute make it easy to use and clean.

Pros:

  • Leafy greens – handles them the best.
  • 2 variable speeds – gives control over juicing efficiency for different produce.
  • External pulp collection – continuous juicing and clean up is easy.
  • Wide 3 inch chute – minimal food preparation and cutting.
  • Build quality – Die cast metal design ensures durability.

Cons:

  • Price – a masticating juicer may be a better option for the price.
  • Heavy – with metal parts, it is not as easy to move and store.

Who Is It Best For?

If you want to buy a centrifugal juicer that can handle leafy greens, then is the juicer for you. A fast, well made juicer that handles everything, looks good and is the Rolls Royce!

Are Centrifugal Juicers Bad?

Short answer…No!

This question comes up a lot when discussing centrifugal vs masticating juicers.  As mentioned above, centrifugal juicers work fast to cut and pulverize produce.

While this is going on, a mesh basket inside the juicer is spinning to create centrifugal force. This separates the juice from the pulp – juice goes one way, pulp the other. It works like a washing machine spin cycle where water is spun or ‘extracted’ from the clothes, leaving them damp, but not dripping.

During this process, the fruits and vegetables become exposed to air at a higher rate compared to a masticating juicer. There is also a lot more friction that can increase the temperature.

As a result, oxidation will occur which causes nutrients to deteriorate. But, if you are drinking your juice soon after making it, the change in nutrient value (versus a masticating juicer) will be minimal.

Also, in recent years many centrifugal juicers have improved in their design. This better design works to minimize temperature changes.

Bottom line…centrifugal juicers are good (not bad).   But, to get the most from your juice, it is best to juice and drink straight away.

Which Is The Right Centrifugal Juicer for You?

If you plan on making juicing a part of your daily life and want the best juicer for the job, you can’t go past the Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus.  Solid design, top brand and all the features you need at a reasonable price.  It will deliver smooth, nutritious juice as often as you need.

When space is an issue, the Breville BJE200XL Compact Juicer is perfect.  The small footprint of this juicer makes sure it takes up little space and is easily stored away.

For quietest operation, the Cuisinart CJE-1000 Juice Extractor can’t be beaten.  While not as quiet as a masticating juicer, when it comes to a ‘quiet’ centrifugal choice, this is the one.

If you are looking for something on a budget or  are a juicing beginner, try the Hamilton Beach 67601A Juicer.  Affordable and powerful, it is the best entry point option.
